GENERAL PURPOSE

Operates equipment used in the collection of solid waste and performs routine maintenance and inspections of

equipment. Performs a variety of maintenance work associated with collections.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Under close supervision, reports to the Crew Supervisor, Sanitation.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None generally.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operates equipment used in the collection of garbage, yard debris and recycling, delivering roll carts, recycling bins, etc. Inspects machinery and equipment daily to ensure proper condition for the completion of daily tasks;performs necessary repair and maintenance; services vehicle as needed including washing, greasing, fueling,

etc. Operates the tink claw to assist with yard debris.

Prepares required documentation as needed, as related to work activities and assignments.

Interacts and communicates with various individuals involved in the activities of the department such as

supervisors, mechanics, co-workers, etc.

Operates knuckle boom loader to assist with yard debris collection.

Washes and deodorizes collection vehicles as required.

Assumes responsibility for safe and efficient operation of equipment.

Supports seasonal labor related duties including but not limited to leaf/yard debris collection & landscaping. Performs support functions for City events.

Operates a variety of power tools and equipment in the collection and disposal of waste products.

May drive light duty trucks in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, landscape materials, etc. Assists with removal of deceased animals from roadways within the City limits.

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

Participates in safety training, making suggestions as necessary; serves on committees or inspection teams when appropriate. Works according to good safety practices as posted, instructed, and/or discussed. Reports unsafe conditions or defects in equipment. Refrains from any unsafe behavior or act that might endanger self or fellow worker(s). Reports all accidents and incidents (including near misses) as soon as they occur. Follows

safety rules and regulations and uses personal protective equipment.

Maintains prompt and regular attendance; adheres to City policies and procedures regarding absences and

tardiness.

Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.

May be required to report to the City’s Emergency Operations Center for emergency duty anytime the Emergency Operations Plan is activated.
