Summary: 

Manufacturing company in Princeton, WI in business for 100 years seeks an engineer to provide:  the development or improvement of equipment, processes and methods, and products or designs modification of existing product prototypes and product lines by applying engineering principles and concepts.  This position collaborates with others to plan and complete manufacturing or mechanical improvement projects and will have a desire to drive improvements, automation and cost reductions, keeping safety, quality, customer service, and cost at the forefront. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize & implement process and cost improvements for enhancing production and further a team environment.
  • Plan improved utilization of facilities, people and equipment.
  • Improve worker efficiency and reduce waste of materials Including restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing of equipment.
  • Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, machines and other mechanical equipment. 
  • Will oversee installation, operation, maintenance and repair of such equipment.
  • Standardize and document procedures for consistent, repeatable actions and safety.
  • Collaborate with Production to establish workflow tasks.
  • Establish work and process measurement programs and analyze work samples to develop standards for labor utilization.
  • Track KPI’s, analyze results and report progress to leadership.
  • May include time and motion studies.
  • Recommend improvements.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate and adopt industry best practices and technologies to reduce costs and increase efficiencies by working closely with shop floor associates to promote ongoing improvement of manufacturing methods, systems and controls.
  • By drawing solutions from both formal training and experience
  • Exhibit Knowledge across many areas of manufacturing.
  • Safety / OSHA regulations,
  • Lean Six Sigma, 5-S and work-cell cleanliness,
  • Standard Operating Procedures, policies and process documentation
  • Process flow (equipment, facilities, materials to improve efficiencies of operations)
  • Design and implement quality specs and checks.
  • Conduct new hire or new equipment training.
  • Coordinate product design with manufacturing to assist in tooling design.
  • Communicate daily with production manager and production support and maintenance on issues and needs.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with R & D projects and prototypes for new customer products or processes.
  • Attend plant meetings, when scheduled.
  • Attend and participate in at least 1 job or safety training per year.
  • Occasional travel to vendors, customers, conferences, etc.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:   currently none

Education and / or Experience:     

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial or mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years engineering work experience; in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in Auto-Cad or Solid Works, Project Management and MS Office
  • Proven experience and results of lean principles and process improvements, examining and re-engineering operations and procedures; and root cause analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Ability to manage shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exhibit a fundamental knowledge of machine setup and operations.
  • Ability to read product prints / spec sheets and read measurements or gauges required for production.
  • Exhibit Excellent communications – both verbal and written

Work Environment and Physical Conditions:

  • Some manual dexterity required and use of various tools.
  • Frequent walking, standing and sitting / computer work.
  • Occasional ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be certified for occasional lift truck operation.
  • Ability to use safety equipment and wear personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to:  eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots. 
  • Production Environment can be extremely dirty; due to welding, blasting and steel grit materials and particles.   
  • May be exposed temperature extremes (40degrees F – 120degrees F)
  • Some exposure to increased level of noise.
  • May need to be available for outside of normal work schedule or weekend projects.
  • Occasional travel to vendors, customers, etc.
