Job Overview
 

Directly supervises the senior officer(s), security officer/driver(s) and security officers. Responsible for center security, safety, fire prevention, property protection, transportation, and fleet management in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. 

 

Although this position primarily works day shift hours (M-F between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), working alternate schedules (including evenings, nights, holidays) will be required for supervisory support needs or staffing coverage. 

 

The salary range for this position is $45,000-$55,000/year.

Responsibilities
 

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the administrative activities of the department.
  • Provide staff training, evaluate staff performance, and recommend and implement department and personnel changes as approved by the Center Director and coordinated with Human Resources Manager.
  • Develop and maintain safety, fire, and emergency disaster, and risk assessment plans in compliance with government and corporate directives.
  • Serve as the center safety officer, regularly conduct safety inspections to identify potential hazards, initiate corrective action, and prepare reports to cognizant agencies and management.
  • Oversee transportation of students and staff in center vehicles, as required.
  • Assist in development of departmental budget. Monitor budget; control expenditures; review and recommend changes to budget authorizations.
  • Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting the safety/transportation department and center safety programs; coordinate policy changes with other departments to ensure compliance with center objectives.
  • Regularly assess and audit department for contractual compliance and quality of services to students; prepare audit and assessment reports.
  • Develop and monitor shift schedules for 24-hour, seven days per week coverage; schedule substitute staff as necessary to ensure adequate coverage at all times.
  • Investigate all employee and student accident/injury accidents/injuries for reporting to insurance underwriter, DOL and the corporate office.
  • Coordinate with other departments on activities, problem solving, staff training, and interdepartmental programs regarding safety, security and transportation.
  • Maintain the security of buildings, vehicles, and property by ensuring doors, windows, lighting, appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment are secured.
  • Test fire and safety systems and intrusion alarms; report malfunctions; ensure monthly fire drills are conducted and documented in compliance with government and corporate directives; ensure fire extinguishers are available in required locations and in working condition at all times.
  • Manage overall fire prevention and emergency response and serve as liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement, and the fire department.
  • Provide fire and safety procedures and literature to staff and students; develop and implement orientation and in-service training programs for staff and students; train staff on OSHA standards.
  • Conduct searches and seizures when so authorized; confiscate contraband, weapons, etc., and deliver such to the Center Director for proper disposal.
  • Assist center staff and law enforcement officers in controlling disturbances; investigate and prepare reports on such; coordinate tort claims.
  • Ensure that proper student check-in and check-out procedures are followed.
  • Maintain incident reports, accident documentation, logs, and other records as prescribed by center, government and corporate guidelines.
  • Regularly inspect facilities; conduct preventive safety inspections of facilities to identify potential hazards; initiate corrective action.
  • Support and promote center zero tolerance policies.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property. Adhere to safety practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain a climate on center, which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Promote the development of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring student skill acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding mentoring and intervention techniques.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Job Requirements
 

Mandatory:

  • Associate degree (A.A) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school in related field. Directly related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.
  • Three years of related experience in law enforcement, security and/or safety; one of which should be in a supervisory capacity; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract.
  • Ability to obtain & maintain valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
