Job Title: IT & Network Administrator

Location: This role may be based remotely in the western US, with special consideration given to candidates located in Central Oregon and Denver, Colorado.

Job Summary:

The IT & Network Administrator is responsible for building and maintaining secure network and IT infrastructures. This role supports two offices located in Oregon and Colorado, an installed base of 24/7 power and gas production facilities, as well as a number of remote employees. The sites operated by ESI and others are located nationwide and may require incremental site visits to perform maintenance and improvements related to their IT infrastructure. An ability to work independently, collaborate cross functionally, and communicate effectively with team members is of the utmost importance to this role.

This role may be based remotely in the western US, with special consideration given to candidates located in Central Oregon and Denver, Colorado.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, design, and develop data communication networks.
  • Perform research and analysis to identify the network needs of the company.
  • Develop strategies to enhance network operations.
  • Present network plans to management staff.
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks.
  • Perform repairs and modifications to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow for the company.
  • Establish and enforce network design standards and guidelines, ensuring consistency across the organization.
  • Define and implement security policies and procedures to maintain a robust and secure network environment that is compliant with relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Design, organize, modify, and support an organization’s computer systems, including operating systems, business applications, security tools, web servers, email systems, and user hardware (laptops, PCs).
  • Set up and maintain network systems, software, and hardware for Local Area Networks (LAN), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), and Wide Area Networks (WAN). Research upcoming products, service protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
  • Manage user accounts, credentials, permissions, access rights, storage allocations, and active directory administration.
  • Secure system integrity from any breaches or viruses and play an essential role in risk-mitigation planning, including creating backup plans, safeguards for data, user security policies, and identity management.
  • Quickly resolve any system failures and troubleshoot issues.
  • Ensure an uninterrupted internet connection and manage mail servers for sending and receiving emails and file servers for saving and managing data.
  • Oversee system performance and report generation.
  • Secure system integrity from any breaches or viruses and play an essential role in risk-mitigation planning, including creating backup plans, safeguards for data, user security policies, and identity management.
  • Working closely with other IT staff, to ensure seamless operation of IT systems and collaborate cross functionally to understand the IT needs and requirements of all departments.
  • Develop and execute backup and recovery plan.
  • Offer technical support and training for staff.
  • On-Call for troubleshooting.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Competencies (Required):

  • Solid foundational knowledge of how to run cloud-based systems, including the tracking and notification tools needed in cloud environments.
  • Configuring, managing, and maintaining network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs. They are responsible for ensuring network connectivity, troubleshooting network issues, and optimizing network performance.
  • Strong network management skills, including familiarity with different network configurations and how they interact.
  • Experience serving a primarily remote workforce, including Operations staff who may have intermittent or limited IT access.
  • Knowledge of current best practices related to systems security and expertise in security monitoring platforms.
  • Expertise in cost analysis and cost control related to IT services, with the ability to develop a scalable and cost-effective IT infrastructure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deal with complex problems and present recommendations and findings in a clear, concise format; ability to effectively interact at all levels within and outside of ESI.
  • Proficiency with Cisco network and security solutions.
  • Quick learner who adapts well to a fast-moving environment and gets things done, combines creativity, problem-solving skills, and a can-do attitude to overcome any obstacle.
  • Highly motivated and willing to take on multiple responsibilities at once; Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask in an environment with changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Competencies (Preferred):

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)
  • Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC)
  • ITIL Foundation Certification (for IT service management).
  • Experience designing, implementing and supporting IT systems.
  • Using configuration management databases (CMDB) and tools.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer architecture or a complete networking certification (Preferred)
