Description:

The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying patient insurance coverage to ensure necessary procedures are covered by an individual’s provider. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of insurance policies, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verify insurance eligibility and coverage for patients scheduled for procedures or appointments.
  • Obtain pre-authorizations and referrals as required by patients’ insurance plans.
  • Communicate with patients and insurance companies to clarify coverage details and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
  • Update patient records with insurance information and authorization details.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers and billing department to ensure accurate billing and reimbursement.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits and out-of-pocket responsibilities.
  • Follow up on pending authorizations and resolve any denials or appeals in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure a smooth and efficient patient experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in healthcare administration or related field is a plus.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in insurance verification, healthcare billing, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of insurance terminology, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) and billing software. (Next Gen and EPIC)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, insurance representatives, and healthcare providers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
