Team Leader I

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, this role is responsible for leading a shipping team in all aspects of shipping requirement. The Team Leader will train and lead others in shipping, will participate in and/or lead projects daily tasks with process improvement, problem resolution, and lean initiatives.

Advises and coordinates team efforts to completion; answers questions functioning as an expert resource; maintains assignment completion schedules. Performs the same tasks as others within the team along with some higher-level tasks. Essential Functions:
  • Provide hands on leadership to assigned area, daily team communication schedule, goals setting, performance, and team member assignments.
  • Assist with supervisory/manager tasks and employee performance evaluations with support of area supervisor/manager
  • Perform Business system Check -Ins
  • Accountable for performance of assigned area
  • Assist in resolution of issues found with orders being on shipping floor
  • Able to hold employees accountable when process or policies are not followed.
  • Communicate with all levels of the organization - respect, professional
  • Able to make a positive decision to improve G&W culture
  • Lead pass down information between all shifts
  • Act as liaison between manufacturing and shipping to ensure on time customer delivery
  • Perform hands on direct labor and other functions within the group to maintain workflow in an efficient manner to ensure on-time completion.
  • Support and lead continuous improvement projects within assigned area or other areas of expertise as required
  • Assist in identification and correction of safety improvement activities
  • Acts as a backup for all Health & Safety responsibilities when supervisor/manager is not present
  • Perform process audits, safety sweeps, and employee training (including TWI)
  • Review area 6S, tools, fixtures, and product availability to ship
  • Able to develop and present reports in group sessions
  • Other projects and duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • 3-5 years' experience performing work in a manufacturing environment
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Self-starter with high degree of motivation who can operate with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to facilitate training, coach new hires
  • Ability to present in a group or all channels settings
  • Must be able to become a licensed forklift operator
  • Good analytical, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Knowledge and experience in ERP or MRP business system, with JD Edwards experience preferred.
  • Great attitude toward teamwork.
  • Organized with good writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Good follow up skills and ensures completion of tasks.
  • High school diploma or GED
