Position Summary:

As a Manufacturing Engineering Trainee, you will report directly to the Departmental Manager and play a crucial role in delivering technical expertise and project support within our manufacturing and packaging facility. This position demands hands-on experience and knowledge in manufacturing processes, equipment, and operations. Under the guidance of senior management, you will engage in safety initiatives, cost reduction strategies, lean methods, and general engineering projects while supporting day-to-day production activities. Your responsibilities will also involve close collaboration with site management, skill development training, and direct engagement with facility operators to ensure a safe, efficient, and productive work environment at Church and Dwight.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Participate in a structured 24-month rotational program, spanning various functions of the site, including engineering, operations, maintenance, lean/continuous improvement (CI), safety, and quality, with approximately three eight-month rotations. First rotation will be an Engineering function with the schedule being M-F 8am-5pm. Second rotation will be supervisory function on a 2-2-3 rotating schedule with hours being 6am - 6pm. Last rotation will be up to the individuals preference and the schedule will be determined by specific department.
  • Collaborate with senior managers to develop essential leadership skills tailored to manufacturing environments, benefiting from mentorship across diverse fields such as process optimization, equipment maintenance, quality control, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all assigned tasks and projects, prioritizing the well-being of personnel and compliance with industry regulations.
  • Drive planning and execution of improvement initiatives within the manufacturing and packaging facility, leveraging your expertise in manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles to tasks, including analyzing process flow diagrams, conducting material balances, and optimizing unit operations for enhanced efficiency.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement by integrating lean manufacturing principles like 5S and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) elements into project execution, aiming for streamlined workflows and minimized waste.
  • Actively participate in team, plant, and project meetings, providing clear and concise communication of project activities and progress to key stakeholders.
  • Efficiently manage time and prioritize project loads to meet deadlines, demonstrating adaptability and resilience in dynamic manufacturing environments.
  • Provide hands-on process support and assist in troubleshooting operational, maintenance, and packaging issues as required, drawing upon your manufacturing expertise to swiftly resolve challenges.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary to support the operational needs of the facility.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required, with a focus in Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Chemical Engineering strongly preferred.
  • Relevant internships or co-op experiences in manufacturing settings will be considered.
  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, with a demonstrated understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and operations.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams, delivering results on time and within scope.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on fostering collaboration and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Competency and Skill Requirements:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills tailored to manufacturing challenges, demonstrating a methodical approach to root cause analysis and solution implementation.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and knowledge, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Effective time management skills, enabling you to balance multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Capacity to work autonomously and as part of a team, exhibiting flexibility and adaptability in response to changing priorities and operational needs.
