The Salvation Army Midland Division Gateway Corps located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking for a temporary Community Center Program Aide. This position will coordinate and monitor community center activities in relation to programs which may include after school, leagues, open recreation, and rentals. Must be available during and after school hours when on site. Must maintain and exhibit willingness to assist in carrying out The Salvation Army mission and enjoy working with children, be a good tutor and perform some cleaning duties as needed in program areas. This position is expected to advance and support the Mission of The Salvation Army.

This is a temporary part-time, 29 hour a week position between the weeks of 05/15/2024 to 08/09/2024 with starting pay of $13.00 per hour.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee members and visitors during activities in the community center.
  • Enforce rules as necessary.
  • Assist in leagues, rentals, and other recreational opportunities.
  • When necessary, mediate disputes among participants, being sensitive to needs of all parties.
  • Set up and take down work and play areas before and after activities.
  • Assist in planning community center special events.
  • Maintain and organize all gymnasium supplies and equipment.
  • Train members and visitors in the care and use of games and equipment.
  • Record and submit daily statistical reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.

Education and Experience

  • Previous work with youth activities and community center is desirable.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to read and write well. Relate well with youth and children.
  • Requires basic verbal communications with children and other employees.
  • Valid drivers' license (including E license to transport children) and pass TSA MVR is a plus.
  • Must be certified by American Red Cross (ARC) in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be capable of performing the above essential duties and be able to lift a 40 pound child.
  • Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
  • Some work will be outdoors where it will be hot in the summer.
