Performs analysis of materials and processes to ensure that processes and materials specified or required are compatible with the design and customer specification. Recommends corrective action based on analysis of material test results; and verifies that proper corrective action has been implemented. Conducts material searches and research for new materials and material substitutions. Maintains and controls the material coding system with the company’s information system. Maintains and controls system of Process Specifications, Material Specifications, and other engineering documents relevant to in-house processing. Regulates test requirements, and modifies and writes test plans to evaluate the capability of a unit or component in accordance with military, FAA, and Weber specifications. Assists Process Test Lab technicians in evaluating flammability, chemical, adhesion, corrosion resistance, weight test on anodic samples, surface resistance, peel, shear, degradation from ultra violet light test, etc. Assist R & D testing and quality assessments. Initiates purchase orders for suppliers or outside services as required for materials and processes testing. Sign drawings attesting that all materials specified meet the requirements. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recommended to have knowledge of FAR’s related to certification of aircraft interiors. Recommend also to have knowledge of airframe manufacturers’ specifications. Needs a working knowledge of reasonable use and care of standard laboratory equipment, as well as production materials and processes. Knowledge of MS Office data processing required. Education and/or Experience: Must have a B.S. in Material Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or Chemistry. Recommend one to three years experience in materials analysis position.
