The Bohemian Grove is situated on 2,700 acres of towering redwood forest in the lower Russian River Valley in Sonoma County. For more than 150 years Club members and their guests have ventured to the Grove to enjoy and partake in the arts, music, literature and drama as well as nature walks and fine dining.

DUTIES

  • Civic Center employees provide information concerning the services listed below while offering specialized clothing items (shirts, jackets, vests, caps, etc. with Club logo) for purchase. The Civic Center employee also assists other departments in providing services to members and guests by contacting the department on their behalf.

Member Services Provided:

  • Information desk
  • Grove maps and hiking guides
  • Merchandise for purchase
  • Camp service requests
  • Baggage tags
  • Mail and postbox
  • Writing materials
  • Program of events distribution
  • Message board and pick-up
  • Newspapers
  • Lost and found
  • Laundry and dry cleaning
  • List of guests
  • Daily attendance chart
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS Requirements:

  • Outstanding customer relations skills a must.
  • Must enjoy working with people.
  • Must be able to multi-task while keeping a cool head.
  • Required to comfortably lift 50 pounds.
  • Required to utilize a touch-screen point-of-sale system.
  • Must be an agreeable team player, ready to perform many types of duties where necessary.

Work Environment: Civic Center is a partially open-air redwood building nestled in the major event pathways of the activity-related areas of the Grove. The duties of the Civic Center employee are consistent, yet the atmosphere where performed may become unstructured and harried for short periods of time.

Regardless of any extensive explanation of the duties and initial training in procedures and POS system, learning on the job during busy times is required. Answering each question asked, or researching an answer is one of the main goals. In many instances, good judgment is necessary to determine the best way to assist members and guests. The (people) traffic at Civic Center is based upon the scheduled events and where these are located in the Grove. Therefore, there are extreme lulls, as well as frenzies of activity. The attitude necessary for this job is can do and being flexible, courteous, and helpful.

*California workers must receive the following breaks:

  • An uninterrupted 30-minute unpaid meal break when working more than five (5+) hours in a day.
  • An additional 30-minute unpaid meal break when working more than 12 hours in a day.
  • A paid 10-minute rest period for every four hours worked.

*Background Checks:

Employment at the Bohemian Club requires the successful completion of a criminal background check before one can work and gain access at the Bohemian Grove for Grove events.
