JOB SUMMARY:
The Human Resource Generalist is an HR professional with well-rounded skills to provide value-added service to management and employees under the McLaughlin Family Companies (McFamCo) umbrella. They have expertise in the daily functions of the HR department and can align business objectives with employees and management in facilities in Iowa.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Builds trust across all levels of the organization.
  • Leads employee relations for assigned locations or businesses.
  • Recruits for assigned businesses.
  • Conducts training for management and employees regarding processes, policies, compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Maximizes recruiting efforts using social media communications, media engagements, career fairs, open houses, tours, and community relations.
  • Coordinates workers compensation incidents and manages claims.
  • Manages or assists in employee engagement activities resulting in maximizing retention.
  • Leads or assists in corporate HR projects to meet company objectives, process improvement, policy revisions, and other projects as assigned by the HR Director.
  • Manage change and communication within assigned location or businesses.
  • Coordinates benefits processing such as enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, FMLA, and compliance testing. Assists or conducts benefit annual open enrollment meetings.
  • Conducts employee onboarding activities, employee surveys, employee roundtables, and exit interviews to track, report, and drive employee engagement and retention.
  • Represent employer for unemployment claims and other inquiries.
  • Maximizes the APS system for the purposes of recruiting, information management, payroll, benefits, and reporting for assigned locations.
  • Assists in the direction of payroll functions including but not limited to: timekeeping, payroll liabilities, policies and procedures, complying with federal/state/local regulations regarding employee compensation.
  • Acts as an employee advocate.
  • Manages human resources related communication by answering questions and requests from employees, supervisors, members of management, or outside sources.
  • Coordinates performance review process and compensation recommendations
  • Conducts confidential investigations in a compliant manner.
  • Assists management in disciplinary actions, making recommendations based upon company policy.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of human resource procedures and systems such as HRIS, ATS, payroll; managing files and records, designing forms, and other human resource procedures and terminology.
  • Knowledge of principles and procedures for recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, workers compensation, and personnel information systems.
  • Knowledge of basic math, statistics, and other applications.
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment laws such as FLSA, FMLA, ADAAA, NLRA & Workers Compensation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong problem-solving ability.
  • Bi-lingual skills helpful. Must be able to find ways to communicate to diverse workforce.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines with frequent interruptions.
  • Handles all information with discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Frequent travel to Iowa locations; very little, if any, overnight.
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources or related field of study, or a combination of experience and education with two years of professional experience.
  • Certificates/Licenses: SHRM-CP or PHR or higher level certification preferred.
  • Two years of generalist experience is required; including, experience in any combination of the following areas: employee relations, talent management, training, industrial safety, compensation and benefits administration.
