Summary

Assist with establishing programs that aid federal, state, and local environmental health and safety compliance activities at Tulane University. Perform assigned duties relative to facilities, environmental compliance issues, and food safety as well as theater safety issues, as needed. Provide training and guidance on safety issues, perform audits relative to industrial work such as the use of woodworking equipment, machining equipment, painting, confined space entry, and other tasks that involve risk to facilities workers as well as persons involved with theater performances. Serve as a liaison for regulatory agencies and insurance companies as needed. Participate in OEHS On-Call and Emergency Response Program for safety and health issues at Tulane. Assist other OEHS personnel in other areas and on other campuses as needed.
This position is considered essential for certain campus emergencies and is expected to remain in campus allocated locations when called upon to do so.

Required Qualifications

•Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety or related field from an accredited educational institution with 3 years’ experience working within a comprehensive environmental health and safety program, or high school diploma or equivalent with 9 years of professional working experience in a comprehensive environmental health and safety program •Two to three years of experience within an industrial or construction safety program•Must have a valid and unrestricted (not including corrective lens needs) U.S. Driver’s license and must meet the Tulane University Motor Vehicle policy criteria to become authorized as a driver.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10-15 years of work experience in environmental, health, and safety, regulatory compliance or industrial hygiene or occupational health.• Five years’ experience in industrial process safety compliance.• Two years’ work experience in a university setting.• General knowledge of NPFA and Louisiana Building Code requirements.• General knowledge of Louisiana Food Safety and Sanitation requirements.• Experience with construction project review.• Professional certification or eligibility for CHMM, CSP or related credential.
