Are you someone looking to leave a lasting impact on young lives? An AmeriCorps term of service might be the option for you!

The AmeriCorps LEAD (Learn. Educate. Activate. Develop) Members will be hands-on with youth to implement curriculum and programming on a day-to-day basis. The curriculum will focus on social-emotional learning, career development, and leadership skills. This role is responsible for the safety of all program participants as well as relationship building.
 

Role Highlights

  • Be Hands-On - You’ll be on the ground implementing day-to-day programming focused on social-emotional learning (SEL), career development, and leadership skills.
  • Safety First - Your responsibility will extend to ensuring the safety and well-being of all program participants.
  • Literacy & Learning - Utilize Lexia to create personalized learning plans and conduct one-on-one and small-group literacy sessions.
  • Community & Connection - Engage with youth and families to amplify what BGCWPA has to offer and build stronger community relationships.

More Professional Development Opportunities

  • Implement educational programs covering Literacy, STEAM, Mentoring, and Athletics.
  • Roll out evidence-based SEL programs (Positive Action) and contribute to program reports.
  • Foster an environment that encourages creativity and exploration.
  • Assist with annual youth evaluations.
  • Promote and stimulate membership in the Clubhouse through programs, services, and outreach activities. 
  • Offer input regarding department programs, in partnership with the approval of Program Manager
  • Observe and report any maintenance and operational concerns of the department’s physical property, ensuring Club member safety at all times to the Clubhouse director.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • High school graduate or GED recipient, or working towards attaining during the term of service
  • US Citizenship or permanent residency status (Green Card)
  • At least one year of experience working with children.
  • The ability to create strong relationships with youth in a short period of time
  • An interest in a variety of youth programs including technology, art, sports, STEM, mentoring and recreation
  • Advanced positive customer service skills needed.
  • Must complete a health physical and TB test
  • 3 letters of Reference needed upon selection 
  • Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter. Complete the National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Mandated Reporter Certification within 30 days of hire
  • Be able to attend a minimum of 12 hours of training per year.
  • Complete CPR, Pediatric First Aid during orientation.
  • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
  • Proficient in Google Suite.
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine fingered dexterity. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
  • Perform additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors that follow all AmeriCorps policies and regulations.
     

Term of Service/Time Requirements

  • Commitment to serve a total number of hours in your allotted service cohort:
    • Quarter-Time members to serve 450 hours total
    • Minimum-Time members to serve 300 hours total
  • Members will also be required to participate in AmeriCorps Week activities and local service projects/events
  • Members will be required to participate in a week-long orientation/training prior to their service term
  • Members will be required to attend local service/volunteer opportunities throughout the term
     

Benefits of AmeriCorps Service

  • Members will receive a biweekly living allowance (around $9 an hour):
    • Minimum-Time Members can receive up to a total of $2,700 divided over the term
    • Quarter-Time Members can receive up to a total of $4,050 divided over the term
  • Education Award: After successfully completing your AmeriCorps term of service and enrolling in the National Service Trust, you are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. You can use the award to repay qualified student loans and to pay current or future (within 7 years) educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs.
    • Minimum-Time Members can receive up to $1,459.26
    • Quarter-Time Members can receive up to $1,824.07
  • As an AmeriCorps member you may be eligible for forbearance on your qualified student loans during your term of service.
  • Upon service completion, receive access to AmeriCorps Alumni benefits and resources

 

Certifications and Clearances
CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse, National Service Criminal History Check, FBI clearance, NSOR certificate, PA Disclosure and Mandated Reporter certification required upon hire or newer then 6 months. PA Staff Health Assessment and TB Test must be submitted upon hire and before start date.
