Riding Instructor

The Riding Instructor organizes, implements, facilitates, and evaluates the interaction between horses and clients of all abilities. This position assists the Barn Manager in the delivery of a safe and fun horseback riding and small animal program.

  • Follow lesson plans that meet rider goals and create new plans as needed.
  • Provide assistance to other Instructors as a Support Instructor as needed.
  • Communicate and interact effectively with riders, parents or caregivers, donors and visitors.
  • Maintain all appropriate client paperwork.
  • Provide after-lesson horse and tack care. 
  • Help plan and facilitate creative riding, horsemanship, and small animal program activities.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the social sector with a passion for MCHS’s mission and vision.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Equine handling knowledge and riding skills.
  • Familiarity and experience with individuals with special needs.
  • Previous experience in the care of horses and small animals.
  • Demonstrated history of dependability and responsibility.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to collaborate with and work within a team environment.

 Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • One to two years’ experience with adaptive horsemanship preferred.
  • Must be certified through CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) or PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship).
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record that is acceptable and meet requirements of the agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Must meet the State’s Moral Character standard.
