Job Description

Join our Weatherization team to help local, low-income households drastically reduce their electric and gas bills! The Weatherization Field Technician will perform prescribed general heat-loss and air-infiltration improvements that will increase the efficiency of homes and correct the health and safety threats. The technician will also complete high quality repairs, upgrades and construction tasks that meet or surpass program inspection. Weatherization Technicians will attain training through on-site mentoring, class courses, and training conferences.

This position will work 40 hours weekly, Mon-Thurs, with 10 hour shifts.

Candidates must submit application by 4/19/2023 in order to be considered for first round interviews.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of additional training or experience in weatherization, carpentry, construction and repairs, building maintenance or related field.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Driver qualifications are required for this position. Valid driver license, insured vehicle available for use on the job, and a satisfactory drive record for the previous three years are required.
  • Candidate must pass a comprehensive MWVCAA background screening prior to employment.
  • Candidate must pass pre-employment drug screen and physical examination.
  • New hires must obtain required necessary certifications for field work within one year of hire.
  • Candidate with Building Performance Institute certifications strongly encouraged to apply.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • General Knowledge of construction procedures, tools and materials.
  • Proficiencies in measurement, math, plumbing, carpentry, electrical; HVAC desirable.
  • Ability to perform general construction repairs.
  • Experience and ability to operate a variety of equipment including: general construction and power tools; blower door; hand tools; digital camera; and other electronics and tools needed to accomplish job duties.
  • Basic computer skills such as Microsoft Office, internet searches, timesheets and email.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.

  • Identifies and seals air infiltration points, ductwork and registers using two-part foam, caulk and/or mastic. Seals ductwork and registers.
  • Installs loose-fill, roll/batt or rigid insulation in attics, walls and floors, ducts, and pipes.
  • Installs pre-hung doors and windows.
  • Completes air sealing on homes (i.e. weather-stripping doors, caulking, etc.).
  • Tracks weatherization inventory and completes necessary documentation; writes notes and memos as needed.
  • Performs carpentry and construction tasks as assigned, including proper disposal of materi
  • Ensures that work orders are completed to program standards, including all paperwork, job preparation, and job clean-up.
  • Attends ongoing trainings/classes to maintain certifications, including on-the-job training.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, distance vision, close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Required to frequently reach with hands and arms; regularly required to climb or balance; occasionally required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee must have the ability to kneel, crouch or crawl in crawl and attic spaces.
  • Manual dexterity for handling equipment.
  • Frequent driving in all weather conditions to work sites and client residences in Polk and Marion counties.
  • Meets regular deadline pressures through planning, problem-solving, and resourcefulness.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Indoor and outdoor work environment with frequent interruptions and demands.
  • Exposure to trash and potential biohazards.
  • Employee may be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary for the job, including protective eyewear and protective clothing.
  • On-site, in-person work is required for this position.
