Job Description of Accounting Specialist/Bookkeeper:

Seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Specialist/Bookkeeper to join our team and contribute to the efficient financial management of our organization.

Duties and Responsibilities of Accounting Specialist/Bookkeeper:

• Post financial information to journals and ledgers in accounting system, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
• Process and categorize invoices, receipts, and other financial transactions in accordance with established procedures.
• Monitor and ensure timely payment of bills and invoices to vendors and suppliers including verification of supporting documentation and filing.
• Research discrepancies in financial information to help determine corrective actions/entries.
• Assist with program participant payroll process, as needed.
• Help prepare G/L account reconciliations as part of month-end closing.
• Assist with reporting required by grants and governing boards.
• Assist with administrative tasks as needed, such as ad hoc projects, data entry, filing, and maintaining organized financial records.

Critical Qualifications of Accounting Specialist/Bookkeeper:

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
• Proven experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or related roles; fund accounting experience helpful.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
• Aptitude for accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, MIP Fund Accounting).
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial recordkeeping.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
• Willingness to learn.
