Job Description
The Marine Pipe Designer plays a critical role in the shipbuilding industry, responsible for closing the gap between functional piping design and the production personnel installing pipe systems in the vessel. This role demands in-depth understanding of typical marine piping systems, materials and arrangements, as well as expertise in CAD software, a strong understanding of engineering principles, and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers and production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing Piping Systems: Develop detailed designs for piping systems according to project specifications, codes, and industry standards. This includes layouts, schematics, and isometric drawings.
- Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials for pipes, fittings, and components based on factors such as fluid properties, pressure, temperature, and environmental conditions.
- Collaborative Work: Coordinate with engineers, project managers, production and other stakeholders to ensure that piping designs integrate seamlessly with overall project plans and meet all technical requirements.
- Compliance and Regulation: Ensure that piping designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations, including ABS, USCG, and any other applicable requirements.
- Cost Optimization: Work towards optimizing piping designs to minimize material waste, reduce costs, and enhance project efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
- Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate documentation including drawings, specifications, bill of materials, and technical reports related to piping designs.
- Review and Modification: Review designs for accuracy, feasibility, and compliance with project requirements. Make necessary modifications or adjustments as per feedback from stakeholders or changes in project scope.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct quality checks and inspections to ensure that piping installations adhere to design specifications and meet quality standards.
- Problem-solving: Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues or conflicts that may arise during the project lifecycle, collaborating with the project team to find effective solutions.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with advancements in piping technology, software tools, and industry best practices. Implement improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in piping design processes.
