Salary: $13-15 DOE

QUALIFICATIONS: This individual must have a minimum of 1-year experience preparing meals. Strong communication, organizational, and math skills are required. An understanding of safe food preparation, sanitation procedures and nutrition are mandatory. Minimal computer skills are required. This individual must encompass respect and concern for young children and their families. Serve Safe certification is preferred.


JOB OVERVIEW: The position of Executive Chef is a Full-Time Position (37-40 hours/week). The Executive Chef is allowed 20 personal days (4 weeks) each year. The Executive Chef is responsible for developing a menu that meets the nutritional needs of the children, preparing meals, keeping a sanitary and safe food preparation environment, promoting positive employee and client relationships, maintaining licensing and health department requirements, cleaning, record keeping, and ensuring safety.


In the event the below-listed requirements are not met during the Executive Chef’s regular scheduled hours, it may be necessary for them to work overtime to ensure the requirements are met.

JOB DUTIES


FILES, RECORDS AND DOCUMENTATION

· Understand, maintain, and uphold Childcare Licensing Regulations and Health Department Regulations

· Develop monthly menu, ensuring nutritional needs are requirements are met as well as meals are cost-effective

· Propose changes to the menu to the Director in a timely manner.

· Ensure meals are consistent with posted menus

o If changes are made to menus, ensure said changes are posted for clients and staff.

· Submit timely requested reports and information to supervisors

o Use Procare and Daily Attendance Sheets to predict the number of children to be served


EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

· Always ensure the safety of children and staff. Report any unsafe situations to the Director immediately

· Create by example and ensure an environment of professionalism, moral integrity, high work ethic, respect and diversity for the employees

· Maintain an open line of communication with the Director regarding all staff concerns

· Maintain employee confidentiality

· Report any employee accidents to the Director


KITCHEN DUTIES

· Maintain a clean and organized kitchen area and dining room

· Prepare and cook meals in accordance with Licensing and Health Department regulations.

· Ensure meals meet the nutritional needs of children

· Ensure safe and sanitary food practices are used when preparing food

· Assist with state reviews and audits

· Attend annual trainings and other training necessary for licensing regulations

· Ensure there are enough servings for all children and adults

· Ensure correct serving sizes of food are served

· Promote and encourage family-style dining 

· Check food deliveries to verify all goods received are safe

· Monitor the condition of kitchen equipment and notify the Director of any faults

· Keep all allergy lists updated and keep teachers informed.

· Ensure children with food allergies are kept safe and provided with alternative foods

· Ensure correct methods and processes are always implemented by kitchen help

· In the case of absence, ensure the substitute cook has a thorough understanding of the menu and expected kitchen duties

· Keep laundry going and notify the Director of low utility supplies


PARENT/CLIENT RELATIONS

· Maintain positive parent communication

· Maintain an open line of communication with the Director regarding all client concerns

· Maintain child and family confidentiality


LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

· Proactively ensure all licensing requirements are being met

· Assist in performing all drills and safety requirements of The Sunshine Academy Risk Management Policies

· Assure all Health Department requirements are being met


BUILDING AND GROUNDS

· Open the building and prepare for the morning

· Daily monitor facilities for any safety issues and notify the supervisor of any hazards.

· Daily monitor facilities for any items needing repairing or replacement, and notify the Director/Program Manager

 

MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES

· Uphold all The Sunshine Academy policies and procedures

· Assist the Director when needed with various projects

· Serve as an advocate for The Sunshine Academy and promote positive public relations.

· Attend staff meetings

· Complete all other duties as assigned by supervisor
