JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Purpose:

Assist in the menu planning, purchasing, and preparation for the camp kitchen. Assist in maintaining health and safety standards in the dining hall according to Girl Scout, the State of NC, and American Camp Association (ACA) standards. Salary Range is 550 dollars a week, 5 or 6 days each week. Housing is available if required, but it’s possible to live off property.

Essential Job Functions:

o Assist in the preparation, cooking, and serving of food.

o Duties may include:

o Menu Planning

o Ordering food and marinating food service budget

○ Maintaining sanitary kitchen

○ Washing pots and pans

○ Cleaning stove, sinks, and work areas

○ Seeing that food is properly stored and dated

○ Helping with end-of-season inventory, cleaning, and storage

○ Supervising packing and distribution of food for cookouts and special occasions.

Qualifications:

● Minimum of 18 years of age as of June 1st.

● Belief in the purpose and value of the Girl Scouting movement, and hold current membership with Girl Scouts of the USA or willingness to become a member before June 1st.

● Have good character, integrity, adaptability, patience, sense of humor, and enthusiasm.

● Desire to work in the residential camp food service area.

● Possess a current Serve-Safe Food Handlers Certification or willingness to obtain one.

● Knowledge of menu planning, food ordering, food preparation and serving, storage of food and dishwashing procedures.

● Serve-Safe certification preferred.

● Ability to supervise and coordinate volunteers.

● Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching;

● Moderate lifting (up to 35 pounds);

● Walking on uneven terrain, up and down hills for distances up to ½ mile;

● Endurance to meet emergency needs;

● Ability to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours;

● Ability to tolerate daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.

Staff training dates are from June 5th - June 13th

Camp dates are from June 16th—July 26th (with a break from July 4th – July 6th)
