Pharmacy work requires knowledge of the use, clinical effects, and composition of medications, including their chemical, biological, and physical properties. Qualifying professional pharmacy experience may involve, but is not limited to: Dispensing medications prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and providing information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications and side effects; Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes for patients in hospitals or managed care organizations; Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program; Planning, monitoring and evaluating medication programs or regimens; Establishing medication-handling procedures for the storage and preservation of medications; Researching medical literature and/or clinical medication information to provide accurate responses to inquiries; and/or Maintaining all medication records required by law.In addition to the Basic Requirements (licensure, medical and education described above), you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Specialized Experience for the GS-13: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Provides inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services and carries out the pharmacy functions of drug selection, compounding and dispensing as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; take steps to prevent drug reactions or interactions; ensure correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; prepares and maintains department budget; creates schedules and assigns work for subordinates, evaluates work performance, ensures staff maintains and is current with all JCAHO standards and credentialing; teach pharmacy techniques/ procedures to other pharmacists.Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.Time In Grade (Merit Promotion Candidates Only) Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
