POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are looking for a Maintenance Boiler & Refrigeration Mechanic to join our Maintenance department with our Welch's Grandview, WA team. The candidate must be able to tend boiler and refrigeration equipment by performing vital inspections of equipment, check for leaks, inspect and record proper temperature reading/controls, maintain plant wastewater equipment, calibrate PH probes, and patrol surrounding areas for locked gates. The candidate must be able to take action in emergencies, ranging from applying corrective actions himself, to reporting conditions directly to supervisor or above.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for tending boiler and refrigeration equipment, boiler room, waste plant, building maintenance, and seasonal preparation. Ensures high quality and safety standards are met.
  • Demonstrates expertise with the maintenance requirement of plant processing, production and seasonal operations through a thorough and continuing evaluation of production, processing and seasonal requirements, techniques, procedures, facilities and equipment.
  • Maintains constant contact with maintenance, production, processing operators and supervision to obtain maximum machine uptime.
  • Train other boiler & refrigeration mechanics as necessary to support production needs and supervise them to accomplish maintenance requirements.
  • Recommends and initiates changes to improve equipment operating performance and performs job estimates.
  • Assures that boiler & refrigeration are carried out within established housekeeping and sanitation procedures, and applicable government regulations.
  • Participates in all regular meetings as scheduled.
  • Perform vital inspections of equipment, check for leaks, inspect and record proper temperature reading/controls.
  • Will perform maintenance of changing belts, bearings, motors, and pump seals.
  • Patrol area and gates on hourly rounds at all key stations and punch watch clock as required.
  • Maintain plant wastewater equipment and calibrates PH probes on the waste water stream.
  • Record temperature, pressure, and other readings on log sheets at key stations.
  • Perform boiler water chemical testing once daily and makes needed adjustments to chemical feed rates.
  • Performs weekly fire pump tests.
  • Performs chemical analyses of water at key stations once per shift and checks alarm system.
  • Maintain the work area in a clean and safe manner.
  • Performs cleanup maintenance in the cooling and boiler & refrigeration areas, which may include mopping, sweeping, and emptying trash cans.
  • Other duties may include welding, fabrication of parts, electrical, repair of pneumatic or hydraulic systems, repair of processing equipment, record utility readings, complete seasonal PMs on all boiler and refrigeration equipment, complete assigned work orders, stamping labels, cleaning parking lot, snow plowing parking lot, removing weeds, assisting on tanks, active participant in confined space entry, and press room, checking oil with dipstick, and checking brine pumps during harvest. Additionally, performs routine painting of rooms including floors and trim.
  • On Sunday, the employee must complete a fire system check.
  • On graveyard shift, the employee is responsible for cleaning and emptying trash cans in the bathrooms and break areas.
  • Must be able to maintain certification to operator Boom Lift and Forklift and operate as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • The candidate must also maintain proficiency in other skilled areas so that one may assist in projects and other maintenance work as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated ability to safely work on and around complex, highly automated machinery in a non-temperature regulated environment. Strong troubleshooting, verbal and written communication skills to effectively present to other maintenance supervisors, technicians, and operators.
  • Cross-functional demonstrated skills in Electrical, PLC, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, Motors, motion control, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in manufacturing facility including repair and maintenance desired.
  • Proactive and able to work independently.
  • Able to work all shifts in a 24x 7 operation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a manufacturing facility including repair and maintenance.
  • Must meet minimum standards outline in Boiler & Refrigeration, Combustion Control, and Pneumatic Annual Regulatory Compliance Training Assessments.
  • Trade school may be substituted for work experience on a yearly basis up to a maximum of 3 years.
  • Applicant must successfully pass the basic skills assessment and Boiler & Refrigeration test.
