Job Summary

The Plant Manager will directly oversee an operation which includes health & safety, environmental, quality, production, maintenance, capital planning and execution in a cost-effective manner while meeting all customer requirements.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Helps manage safety program and is responsible for plant safety; maintains safety as top priority in accordance with all company safety rules and regulations. Ensures training is completed and Compliance Tasks (internal & external) are finished on time.
  • Leads safety improvement initiatives. Creates and fosters a safety-based culture.
  • Support, mentor and develop plant management and supervisory personnel through regular coaching and formal development tools. This includes regular one-on-one meetings and scheduling of Darling offsite trainings.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all regulatory agencies including, OSHA, EPA, FDA and other local and regional agencies.
  • Prepare reports, analyze production statistics, review financial budgets and take corrective measures as needed.
  • Maintain efficient and timely flow of raw materials received and ingredients shipped.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts in all areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborates with Maintenance Manager on preventive maintenance program to ensure equipment is in good working order to meet current and future business needs.
  • Review and lead assigned local Capital Projects. Develops plans to ensure compliance and development of assets for ongoing success and improvement.
  • Ensure all personnel properly trained and equipment is in good working order to meet ongoing and future business needs.
  • Assure all finish product shipped is in accordance with all quality standards and specifications.
  • Effectively manage and reduce energy use at facility.
  • Manage local purchasing activities.
  • Participate and, in some instances, lead audits including: Safety, Food Safety, Customer, Internal Compliance, Insurance among others.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in a supervisory/ management position in an industrial or plant setting.
    • Rendering industry experience a definite plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree preferred; Engineering degree is an asset.
  • Works with Safety as top priority
  • Labor relations background and leadership preferred.
  • Detail oriented; highly organized.
  • Ability to work well with internal staff and is committed to developing others for their next assignment.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-starter; self-motivated.
  • Good math and computer skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as experience with an ERP like Oracle or SAP.
  • Demonstrated work experience in one of the following areas:
    • Continuous Improvement
    • 5S / 6S
    • Kaizen Events
    • Lean Manufacturing
