Job Description

The Interventional Radiology Nurse provides care to IR patients who undergo procedures. The nursing staff is often required to assist physicians during examinations and procedures. The IR nurse's first and foremost responsibility is managing patient care prior to, during and after a procedure. The IR nurse must have knowledge and exercise radiation safety measures as well as a general knowledge of radiology nursing.

The IR nurse is part of a 3-4-person team in the procedural environment. They monitor, sedate and assess patients during diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.

Interventional Radiology Nurse Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Duties

  • Pre-Ops patients for procedure, including IV lines and meds
  • Prepares patients in procedural suite.
  • Circulates and assists
  • Sedates and monitors patients
  • Performs the proper handling of patient tissue samples, patient IV access
  • Responds to contrast reactions
  • Administers meds as ordered by the physician
  • Makes recommendations to the referring physician, the patient, and family under the guidance of the IR physician
  • Provides patient/family education
  • Orchestrates patient discharge

Equipment Duties

The IR nurse will demonstrate their knowledge of all business/medical equipment functionality and report problems when identified. They must have an above average ability to use phone, fax, EMR and all monitoring devices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have successfully graduated from an approved nursing program
  • RN license in the state(s) position is listed for
  • Successful completion of an approved sedation certification
  • 2+ years critical care or coronary care experience.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Skill in data entry with minimal errors
  • Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative environment
  • Must successfully complete CME compliance training as required by CiC
  • BLS/ACLS required
  • Must maintain high patient privacy standards and adheres to HIPAA guidelines
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be willing to be flexible as to shifts and schedules

Wage: $45.00 an hour
