STUDENT FINANCIAL COUNSELOR

DEPT: STUDENT FINANCIAL SERVICES
HOURS: 40 HOURS PER WEEK

FT/PT/TEMP: FULL TIME

EXEMPT STATUS: NON-EXEMPT, HOURLY

LOCATION: ON CAMPUS, PASADENA, CA


BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

Student Financial Counselors are primarily responsible for meeting with students, determining eligibility for aid, packaging, managing daily reports and assigned duties. In addition, they provide financial services counseling to prospective and current students. This position requires an on campus presence as assigned.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions


  • Counsels current and prospective students on understanding their financial package and balance via phone, email, video or in person
  • Acts as the primary SFS contact and responds to students in relation to all student financial services inquires
  • Provides excellent service by responding promptly and professionally to student’s inquiries and concerns
  • Learns and applies complex federal financial aid regulations in order to clearly identify the impact of scholarship and grant eligibility by resolving any conflicting information in a students’ financial aid package, and adjusts awards accordingly in Banner
  • Help students understand their cost of attendance
  • Communicates with students regarding their outstanding requirements for all student financial services team and works with students to help resolve any issues
  • Monitors the student’s cost of attendance to ensure aid awarded is within federal regulations
  • Determine eligibility for aid awarded
  • Notifies and assists students failing to meet the SAP requirements
  • Monitors packaging of aid and makes adjustments when required
  • Communicates and contacts students with payments, holds, delinquent accounts, setting up back balance payment plans, and reaching out to the third parties
  • Help students understand student account activities, charges, and payments
  • Help students navigate through the payment center on how to make payments and set up payment plans
  • Assists the VA Certifying Official with emails and collecting necessary documents to certify
  • Assists students with student health insurance inquiries
  • Participates in SFS and Fuller meetings
  • Reviews and resolves issues related to all assigned daily reports
Secondary Duties
  • Assists other departments within SFS as needed
  • Performs other duties, within Student Financial Services and with other external, as assigned
  • Participates in professional training events as necessary

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 1 year data entry experience
  • 2 years prior customer service experience in a retail, banking, or a higher education institution
  • Experience with automated financial aid administrative systems (preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of Title IV regulations (preferred)
  • Verbal and written fluency in Spanish and/or Korean (preferred)
  • Accounting background is a plus
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, highly diversified environment
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Math aptitude
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an administrative team.
  • Detail oriented, organized and able to multitask
  • Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
  • Work well in a team setting and independently
  • Willingness to learn complex policies and procedures
  • Ability to adapt to change

ADDITIONAL REMARKS:

  • Must be willing to abide by Fuller Community Standards
  • This is an in-person position and required to work on the Pasadena, CA campus
  • This position requires a background and credit check
  • Heavy computer use and phone use with long periods of sitting
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends is required
  • Occasional travel required

PAY SCALE:

  • Salary range the seminary expects to pay: $20 - $23 per hour USD
