Job Description
AES is the leading supplier of Large Format Polymer Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) solutions. Our main focus is on the 3D printing and machining of tooling for the composites industry.
ABOUT THIS POSITION
Come join our engineering team at a leading edge advanced manufacturing company! We are looking for an individual with above average CAD skills (surfacing), with relevant work experience in the manufacturing of tools and molds. Our main tool & mold focus is with composite parts, but general tool design experience will work. Our engineers are able to see most of their projects through from the very beginning to shipping product out the door. Please note, there are few people in the world who do what we do, training will be provided on all the specifics of our Additive Manufacturing design process. An experienced tool designer should be able to hit the ground fast with relative ease. Be a sponge, ask questions, and you’ll do well!
SKILLS
- CAD surfacing & parametric modeling (AutoDesk Inventor and CATIA).
- Tool & mold design – can you take a surface file and design a tool for it? (composite tooling experience is a plus).
- General composites knowledge is a plus (tooling, vacuum bagging, RTM, materials/resins, etc).
- Any Metrology/Quality experience is a plus (Laser Scanning, probing)
- Project Management and organizational skills
- Good communication skills and ability to stay on task and organized is key.
RESPONSIBILITIES
80% Desk Work
- Design of tools and molds from solid or surface files in 3D CAD.
- Preparing design files for printing (slicing).
- Estimating and project quoting/proposals.
- Project & Program management; see your projects through from start to finish. Interface with both customers, suppliers and co-workers for the successful completion of each project.
- Follow and improve internal quality management systems
20% Shop Work
- Assembly of molds: i.e. applying adhesives, designing mechanical bonding strategies, installing inserts, vacuum ports & lines, etc.
- General troubleshooting.
- Some quality assurance, i.e. checking vacuum integrity, laser scanning (sometimes performed off-site).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift 30-50lbs on an occasional basis – some of our small prints can easily be in that weight range.
