Job Title: Plant Accountant

OVERVIEW:

As the Plant Accountant at Suntado, you will be responsible for performing various accounting, control, and management/financial reporting responsibilities. Reporting to the Controller, your role will be instrumental in performing accounting and finance processes that ensures our success as we transition from building a plant to finalizing a high-performance team at a state-of-the-art dairy and plant-based ESL and UHT beverage facility.

You Will:

• Perform various accounting activities including month-end closing entries.

• Coordinate and execute inventory controls that support accurate book inventory levels to support production and purchasing activities and correct statement of the balance sheet and P&L

• Support the controller in performing cost accounting processes and resulting analysis that supports appropriate costing of various product lines as well as understanding and analyzing standard vs. actual shrink as well as material usage and spend variances.

• Preparation of standard financial and management reporting schedules for key stakeholders. and becoming a power user on NetSuite reporting tools.

• Support the federal milk order (USDA) monthly reporting for milk by class and assist in the monthly balancing and reconciliation of milk.

• Assist in the administration of NetSuite master data (customers, vendors, inventory items, etc.) that supports efficient transaction processing and effective reporting and analysis.

• Coordinate various accounting activities with the company’s bookkeeping service to support the efficient discharge of their functions and resolution of exceptions working with the various Suntado functions.

• Provide support in facilitating requests for the company’s annual financial audit as well as any other government audits (e.g. sales tax, USDA Reporting, etc.)

• Support financial forecasting and cash management activities.

The Plant Accountant is a key member supporting our senior management team, reporting to the Plant Controller.

This role requires an engaged and curious self-starter possessing a balance of technical and interpersonal skills and focused on personal development and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform accounting activities to support accurate financial and management reporting. Some examples include:

• Monthly depreciation entries and fixed asset capitalizations

• Prepaid expense amortization

• Expense accruals

• Cost accounting standard entries

• Inventory adjustments.

• Develop, coordinate, and execute physical inventories of bulk milk, ingredients, packaging, pallets, spare parts, and supplies that support accurate reporting of the balance sheet, COGS, and variances. Develop efficient and effective processes to determine where cycle accounts are appropriate vs. monthly or more frequent counts and inventory measures. Provide recommendations to where and how cycle accounts can best be deployed. Ensure that book inventories are reflective of physical inventories to avoid potential production issues.

• Execute certain cost accounting processes such as bill of materials setup, assignment of costs to product lines, review and analysis of standard cost variances including material usage and spend variances. Support or perform studies and analysis to fine tune standard costing and provide variances that are meaningful and actionable.

• Prepare standard financial schedules and management reports and be a resource to the department managers on understanding their spend and variances vs. prior periods and/or budget. Become a power user on NetSuite reporting tools. Provide the plant management team with department spend schedules and analysis and support for spend variances.

• Support the controller in developing and utilizing reports and reviewing information that supports milk producer payroll processes and the monthly reporting to the USDA for milk (e.g. beginning inventory, receipts, production utilization, sales, ending inventory) and reconciling/balancing to ensure that the data is understood and accurate.

• Support master data management processes in NetSuite with respect to setting up and managing inventory/items, customers, vendors, and financial accounts understanding how they impact financial and management reporting.

• Coordinate various accounting and transaction processing activities with the company’s bookkeeping service to support the efficient performance of their functions and resolution of exceptions working with the various Suntado functions.

• Prepare and provide information requested by the company’s auditors as well as any government audits or inquiries under the coordination of the controller.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Degree in Accounting with 2+ years of experience ideally in a food, beverage, or other manufacturing environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• Working knowledge of an ERP system (Oracle NetSuite highly desirable or comparable experience).

• Intermediate personal computing skills (email, MS Office, Reporting and Analytical tools, with very strong EXCEL competencies)

• Strong written and verbal communication functioning in a team environment

• Prior general and/or cost accounting experience.

• Must be able to prioritize, multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
