Job Description
Shop - Mechanic $25/hr
Responsible To: Owners / Coordinator
Synopsis: To work with the Shop manager to maintain all equipment associated records and be available for emergency operations/repairs.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Inspections
Inspect vehicle and equipment to ensure safe legal operations at all times. To aid the shop manager to maintain an inspection log for all vehicles and be responsible to see that state inspections are maintained current excepting only vehicles which at the owner’s direction are to be retired or intentionally delayed to better place the next date inspection is due.
2. Shop, General – Hazard prevention
Maintain the shop so as to be safe, neat, and clean and hazard free. Uncorrectable situations shall be reported to the shop manager. To use all necessary PPE and safety equipment to prevent all hazards or injuries.
3. Vehicle Maintenance Records
To aid the shop manager to maintain a neat and organized record keeping system to record all vehicle maintenance and the associated costs, damage history, inspections, requests for repair, checklist for legally required safety equipment. Vehicle repair costing does not have to be exact but is to be faithfully recorded including parts cost and tax and labor.
4. Access to Shop
Access to the shop shall be permitted as allowed only by the Owners or the Shop Manager. Mechanics are not authorized to permit any personal use of the shop by others (including employees). Mechanics shall safeguard their personal tools by returning their tools to a locked and secure toolbox whenever they are not present. The company policy is to discourage the sharing of tools and is not responsible for tools lost or stolen. Mechanics are advised to carry insurance against the loss of their tools to theft, fire, etc. All company tools & supplies shall be left available to employees having access to the main shop area. Mechanics are expected to safeguard expendable supplies and not allow the inappropriate use of expendables. (Oil, parts, grease, etc.) The shop is to be locked and secured any time the building is not occupied.
5. Heat and Lights
The mechanic is responsible for reasonable conservation of heat and lights in the shop area.
6. Supplies
The mechanic shall report to the shop manager who is responsible to maintain all required shop supplies as economically as possible. A basic inventory of maintenance items; fuses, bolts, tire repair, electrical wiring and connections, tire tubes, oils, filters, bulbs, etc., is to be maintained at the discretion of the shop manager. All purchases shall be made by standard company policy, including the use of purchase orders which shall be posted daily. Any purchases in excess of $50.00 value shall be authorized by the shop manager.
