Description

The Service Technician will diagnose issues and provide remedy solutions for repair of various refuse vehicles (trash trucks). This includes all truck systems including electrical, hydraulic,

mechanical and other components.

Essential Responsibilities

• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards

• Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.

• Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.

• Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.

• Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended

• Communicates with Service Manager immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.

• Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order

• Road tests vehicles when required.

• Functional test of the vehicles’ capabilities.

• Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.

• Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.

• Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.

• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to Service Manager.

• Ensures that vehicle is kept clean. Notifies Service Manager immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.

• Keeps shop area neat and clean.

• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as when they were received.

• Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.

• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.

• Reports any safety issues immediately to management.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

• PC literate with specific experience in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, TEAMS) required.

• Experience with ERP systems (QB is a big plus)

• Office-related hardware such as computers, fax machines, copy machines, mailing machines and similar.

Ability to:

• Identify and evaluate root cause manufacturing using electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods.

• Communicate resolutions, explain truck conditions, truck status and recommendations, to clients, coworkers and management.

• Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.

• Add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and

distance.

• Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar

graphs.

• Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and

geometry.

• Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.

• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

• Write routine reports and correspondence.

• Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees or organization.

• Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

• Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

• Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

• Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

• Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Education, Training & Experience

1. Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and

experience.

2. Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
