Design Engineer

Virginia MetalFab is looking for a motivated and energetic individual to fill the role of Design Engineer.

Virginia MetalFab was founded in 2002 to provide the equine industry with high-quality manufactured and customized products. Since then, we’ve diversified to provide fabrication and manufacturing services to companies in a wide range of industries. Today we manufacture metal parts and assemblies for a wide range of industry leaders in the energy, utilities, transportation, and technology industries.

The Design Engineer will utilize computer-aided design software to create three-dimensional models of complicated structures for manufacturing and product development. This individual is responsible for the planning, development, design, and manufacturing of new products.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

• Design, develop, and engineer high-quality models using 2D and 3D CAD tools.
• Implement CAD functionality and applications.
• Produce designs that meet requirements and targets.
• Check products for feasibility, performance, costs, quality, safety, legislation, and timing.
• Maintain compliance with company guidelines, safety, and quality procedures.
• Update and maintain product design files.
• Assist in improving daily processes to ensure that the CAD systems meet customer requirements.
• Work through software limitations and deploy solutions in the design and development of CAD models.
• Utilize large databases of material property information to best select materials for modeling.
• Keep up to date on industry and engineering standards.
• Work hand-in-hand with Manufacturing Engineer to design new products based on equipment and shop capabilities.

• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• At least 5 years of CAD experience preferred.
• Ability to use CAD at a high level.
• Must be fluent in SolidWorks.
• Must have at least 2 years of sheet metal experience and fluency within the sheet metal module of SolidWorks.
• SolidWorks Sheet Metal Certified, preferred
• Ability to efficiently operate computers and research, as needed.
• Comfortable with Microsoft Office.

Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
