The Experience Intern - Fruita position is designed for Mass Communication, Marketing, PR, Event Management, Business, or Political Science students passionate about community impact through events, engagement experiences and community relationships. The intern works closely with the Partnership Development Specialist and Community, Equity, and Access department to learn all stages of bringing our neighbors together. RMPM will teach the intern all about its approach to asset-based community development. This internship will elevate the intern's interpersonal, community-building, event marketing, and event execution skills.


This internship position will start with a small cohort of fellow interns on June 3, 2024. Selected candidates may expect to work anywhere from 10-12 weeks, depending on their class schedule. This internship opportunity offers 15-20 hours of work per week, including some nights and weekends (depending on event dates; some travel may be required) . Flexible 15 - 20 hours/week, as some experiences are evenings/weekends.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Fully plan, promote, execute, and evaluate at least one event in the Western Colorado Media Center, informed by community listening
  • Support summer series of events, including, but not limited to: Fruita Fourth Fridays, Summer Film Series, Rural Philanthropy Days, and RMPBS KIDS experiences
  • Support RMPBS KIDS outreach to local partners and vendors for RMPBS KIDS Fest 2024
  • Research communities outside of their own to gain greater understanding of multiple perspective and learn the needs of other communities
  • Engage in learning the logic model and asset-based community development framework with the Partnership Development Specialist
  • Support with PBS In Tune shows on KAFM Community Radio
  • Attend a weekly one-on-one meeting with the Partnership Development Specialist
  • Attend bi-weekly Community Team meetings and work collaboratively with the Community Team
  • Attend monthly All Staff Townhall meetings
  • Watch, listen, amplify, and share RMPM content
  • Represents KUVO Jazz (89.3), The DROP (104.7), RMPBS KIDS, and Rocky Mountain PBS with value-aligned behavior at all times
  • Actively participates in RMPM's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) training program
  • Other tasks as assigned and/or required

Minimum Qualifications of Position

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Interest and passion for community impact and non-profits
  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Must be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a program at an accredited college, university, or technical school
  • A mix of demonstrated skills, abilities and knowledge will be considered in place of education requirements

ADDITIONAL Qualifications of Position

  • Must be able to work both independently and as a collaborative and productive team member
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally and productively with persons at all levels
  • Must be detail-oriented with an ability to manage several projects simultaneously

This position works primarily in office or at event sites. This position must be able to work a flexible schedule with occasionally long hours, including some evenings and weekends. Must be able to travel throughout the state on occasion.
