Employment Type: Full Time

Position Responsibilities:

  • Evaluating new patients with upper extremity injuries and conditions, developing plans of care, and setting measurable and functional goals
  • Treating patients, answering their concerns, and educating patients and family members on their injury or condition, progress to reach desired goals, and probable outcomes
  • Monitoring patient response to treatment and intervention, modifying as necessary to meet the needs of the patient and attain goals in accordance with treatment plans and physician orders
  • Exhibiting behaviors and practices which foster effective professional and therapeutic relationships with patients, family members, and team members
  • Cooperating with all staff, management, and physicians to safely achieve goals and maintain good employee, interdepartmental and public relations
  • Consulting with treating physician and cultivating effective relationships with referral providers
  • Providing clinical supervision and oversight to assistants and aides in the provision of hand therapy
  • Fabricating static and dynamic custom splints for patients and instructing and educating patients in the use and care of them
  • Documenting patient evaluation, re-evaluations, daily progress reports, treatments, and discharges of services in a timely manner; accurately recording billable services
  • Ensuring the implementation of and compliance with all ORA policies, procedures, health and safety regulations
  • Providing hand therapy services to patients in accordance with OT guidelines for professional practices and per ORA clinical policies and standards
  • Remaining current with all licensing, credentialing, and education as required by state and federal law
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with all HIPAA rules and regulations

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
  • Ability to identify and implement components of hand therapy processes and high-level patient care
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, and staff
  • Knowledge of personal computer applications and Electronic Medical Record
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

Education:

  • Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in Iowa and/or Illinois
  • Certified or actively pursuing hand therapy certification by HTCC as a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT)

Experience:

  • Previous outpatient occupational hand therapy experience preferred, however, new graduates are welcome
