Job Description

A person in this position performs intermediate technical work operating a Bio-solids Handling facility, a wastewater treatment plant, taking samples, reading gauges and charts, maintaining plant and equipment, maintaining records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Shift Supervisor.

This job requires: general knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment used in wastewater treatment and pumping operations; general knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with wastewater plants and related activities and their necessary safety precautions; knowledge of chemistry as applied to wastewater treatment; ability to adjust water pumps, chemical feed machines, and other wastewater plant equipment; ability to check the operation of equipment and to detect defects in operation; ability to take accurate readings to keep routine records and to make arithmetical computations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. This position requires shift work.

Also required are the following: high school diploma or GED with coursework in environmental sciences, or related field and minimal experience in wastewater treatment plant operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina; preferred Operator’s Certification or the ability to obtain a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certificate from the State of North Carolina within eighteen months of employment as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, Assignment requires ability to obtain Forklift Operator certification.
