Job Description

Cleveland-Cliffs Steelton has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Tech - Machinist in our Maintenance department at our Harrisburg, PA area location. As a Machinist at Cleveland-Cliffs Steelton, LLC, you can expect to see your work everywhere; the employees you work with every day help to make the steel that is used in building nations. Machinists perform all functions (mechanical) necessary to maintain operating and service equipment using standard and specialized tools and equipment. Safety and quality are always the first priorities in Cleveland-Cliffs.

Summary of Responsibilities
  • Performs all types of machine or handwork required to machine, repair, build, rebuild, or install mechanical parts or equipment.
  • Interprets prints, analyzes problems, and plans working procedures.
  • Makes sketches for parts when necessary.
  • Lays out work and selects materials, considering sizes, grades, etc.
  • Sets up machines, sets up work on machines, and operates various controls to machine work to precise tolerances.
  • Operates any powered machine tool necessary as assigned.
  • Makes tight, sliding, rotating fits.
  • Directs and works with a crew or works alone, under minimal supervision, to inspect, adjust, dismantle, repair, rebuild, assemble, or install various machinery or mechanical equipment, performing necessary ordinary rigging.
  • Uses babbitt bearings, performs a variety of bench work and oils, greases, and cleans machinery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be able to follow company safety and other procedures.
  • Machining Degree or Journeyman's card required (5 -10 years experience will be considered in lieu of).
  • Must be able to operate lathes, milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Good troubleshooting, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Qualified applicants will be required to complete a post-offer background review including a criminal conviction and work history check.
  • Candidates must submit to and pass a physical exam which includes a hair follicle drug screen.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.
  • Climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, walking, use of hands, etc. is required.
  • Union Membership: Cleveland-Cliffs has a contract with the United Steelworkers that requires each employee hired into this position to join the Union.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine experience.
  • Experience in a union environment.
