Work with transition age youth to develop and strengthen their self-determination and connection to community allies in an effort to prepare them for better outcomes when, as, or after they transition from foster care. Support youth in accessing additional resources and programs, including college support, housing subsidies and other wraparound services.

Due to the overrepresentation of youth of color impacted in the child welfare system, the specialized positions focus on providing culturally specific and responsive services for youth. These coaches will act as a Culturally Specific Specialist on three levels: 1) working with predominantly Black, as well as Indigenous, and POC (BIPOC) or Bilingual (Spanish-English) youth, 2) acting as one of the team leaders on culturally specific issues for program youth/staff/interns, and 3) serve as a point person for culturally specific advocacy and education for PDX Connect with our community partners.

What this Role is...

Creative- Provides dynamic support to youth, following up and following through to meet youth where they are at building skills along the way, collaborating to meet individual self-identified needs and goals, navigating resources and systems.

Relationship-Driven- Statistics show one of the most significant protective factors for youth is being able to identify just one safe adult in their life. In this role, you will build individual relationships with a caseload of about 18-20 young people through compassionate boundaries, transparent communication, and skill-oriented support.

Community-Based - In this role you will be working with youth primarily in community and providing one-on-one in person service. This can entail meeting youth at their homes or at school, driving youth in your car, and accompanying youth to things like DHS meetings, doctors' appointments, school, and more.

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including detail-oriented coordination and documentation.

* Must have access to an automobile, a valid driver's license, and active auto insurance on that vehicle.
