About this job
- Craft winning grant proposals for submission to foundations, corporations, and government agencies;
- Research, identify, and develop outreach strategies for new institutional sources of funding for general operations, exhibitions, educational programs, museum and library initiatives, and capital projects;
- Develop and execute stewardship strategies in collaboration with Director of Institutional Giving, building a portfolio of current N-YHS program supporters and corporate sponsors, cultivating new and existing relationships and identifying and spearheading opportunities for engagement;
- Working with Director of Institutional Giving, ensure accurate and up-to-date recordkeeping of grant purposes, allocations, and projections;
- Oversee and meet a rigorous schedule of external and internal deadlines for applications, ensuring ample time for internal reviews and approvals;
- Working with New-York Historical's Finance Department, monitor grant compliance and prepare detailed narrative and financial reports to government agencies as well as corporate and foundation donors;
- Support the Development Department in fundraising activities through proposal narrative development, reports on institutional achievements, and strategic prospect development and stewardship;
- Participate at a broad range of special events, supporting fundraising galas, exhibition opening receptions, and intimate donor cultivation events, among others;
- Oversee and mentor Development Department intern in the context of Institutional Giving projects;
- Additional responsibilities and duties as required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent;
- 4+ years related development experience;
- Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple long-term assignments while managing tasks of immediate need in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment;
- Demonstrated success in crafting strong funding proposals and grant reports;
- Superior editing and proofreading skills; detail oriented with a commitment to accuracy;
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
- Facility with budgets and financial reports;
- A creative thinker and problem-solver who works well independently and with teams and can represent the department well with both internal and external stakeholders;
- Sincere interest in history, the humanities, and the arts;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, fundraising database navigation, and fundraising research tools;
- Ability to work some evening and weekend events.
