Basic Functions

Provide continuing education instruction to adult students with developmental disabilities. Paraquad offers multiple classes such as: Cooking, Board Games, Book Club, Movie Club, Reading, Computers, and more.

Responsibilities

Classroom Instruction

  • Teach students in a classroom or virtual setting two or more evenings each week.
  • Prepare classroom and gather materials needed for class during the planning period.
  • Present material in a variety of ways to accommodate different aptitudes and learning styles of students: discussion, demonstration, hands-on activity, reading, worksheets, instructive lectures, role-playing, videos, movies, etc.
  • Assign homework as appropriate to students to support their learning goals.
  • Work with Program Manager at the beginning of and throughout the semester to modify curriculum for the class.
  • Enforce the Paraquad Participant Code of Conduct with the support of the Site Leader.
  • Inform the Site Leader of any specific concerns regarding the class and students.

Documentation:

  • Complete all program documentation correctly by the due date as assigned.
  • Work toward specific and measurable goals for each student throughout the semester; document on progress at each class session.
  • Complete individual service reports (ISRs) for each student every week; complete attendance logs each week.
  • Turn in completed documentation to the Site Leader before leaving each evening.

Independent Living Services:

  • Assist students with building Independent Living skills in an educational setting.
  • Make referral to other programs and services to promote independent living, as appropriate.

Miscellaneous:

  • Understand and commit to promoting the independent living philosophy.
  • Attend and participate in planning meetings and all mandatory trainings.
  • Protect participant's right to privacy and confidentiality in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Training

  • Prior teaching and/or tutoring experience preferred.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities and/or personal experience with a disability is preferred.
  • High School diploma with some college preferred.
  • Must complete all funder required training and obtain required certification prior to working with participants.
