Job Description
Humane Society Naples is accepting applications for the position of Accountant. This full time position supports financial oversight of HSN operations through the accurate recording of organizational financial transactions and provision of timely monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. This position reports to the CFO.

Your work and expertise as an eagle-eyed Accountant would directly help support the lives and adoptions of dogs, cats, and other small mammals by ensuring HSN works towards its mission on a financially accurate path.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Complete monthly journal entries, bank reconciliations, and account analysis
  • Code and input invoices and deposits to ensure proper allocation
  • Reconcile daily transactions and post to general ledger
  • Maintain subsidiary ledgers on a current basis
  • Perform monthly expense review in accordance with the closing calendar
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for review
  • Perform periodic surprise counts of departmental cash banks, maintain associated records, and report unusual findings
  • Review and document use of donor-restricted monies
  • Complete credit applications as requested
  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
  • Maintain thorough understanding of financial reporting and general ledger structure
  • Update and maintain skills on software used in various organizational departments, including but not limited to software utilized in development, adoptions, and clinic
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in non-profit financial accounting
  • Assist at major fundraising or adoption events
Requirements
  • Occasional work from home is negotiable, but candidates must be based in SWFL as on location work is required for the majority of the week
  • Minimum of an Associate degree or equivalent in accounting or at least two years' work experience in accounting, business management, or related field required
  • A degree plus at least two years' work experience preferred
  • At least one year of experience with full charge bookkeeping or non-profit accounting
    preferred
  • Accurate accounting and mathematical skills
  • Computer proficiency, including accounting system knowledge
  • Familiarity with Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
  • Willingness to learn new software
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects
  • Detail-oriented
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence that support quality customer service, conflict resolution, and teamwork
  • Strong work ethic, including reliable attendance, integrity, and honesty
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Ability to work within a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times
  • Compassion and concern for companion animals
  • Fluency in English is required; Spanish or Haitian-Creole language skills preferred but not required

Physical Requirements
  • The ability to see at approximately 20/20 vision with or without assistive devices
  • The ability to hear or read lips with or without assistive devices
  • The ability to use arms, hands, and fingers, including fine motor movements
  • Personnel in this position can expect to sit or stand for long periods of time, and engage in occasional mild physical labor, including but not limited to bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
Schedule: This is a full-time position, M - F, 40 hours per week.
