Job Description

This is a full time, exempt level position reporting to the Sr. Director of Admissions.

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for leading prospective students through the admission, financial aid, and class registration processes in order to matriculate at Wilmington College. Tasks included, but are not limited to, territorial travel to high schools and college fairs, attending recruiting events on and off campus, processing admission and financial aid files, telecounseling, interviewing prospective students and families and constructing fall class schedules.


Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide maximum customer service to prospective students and their families
  2. Visit with prospective students (and families) to provide a welcoming and thorough overview of the opportunities available at Wilmington College
  3. Provide correspondence to prospective students through all channels of communication including phone, text, email and parent outreach
  4. Develop innovative recruitment strategies and execute those strategies in a collaborative and team-building environment
  5. Visit, develop and maintain strong working relationships with high school educators, guidance professionals and access organization leaders
  6. Represent College at various college fairs and events
  7. Attend on-campus and off-campus Admission recruiting events
  8. Assume secondary planning and implementation responsibility for recruitment territory events on campus
  9. Utilize integrated database to process admission files, award scholarship and communicate effectively with prospective students
  10. Conduct financial aid counseling contacts with students including verification process and financial aid award review
  11. Attend weekly Admission Staff meetings
  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment

  4. Strives for excellence in performance of responsibilities and in meeting needs of prospective students/families served.
  5. Maintains timely follow-up throughout admission and financial aid processes.
  6. Appearance is professional and meets office policy standards.
  7. Conduct is professional and meets office policy standards.
  8. Knows and observes college and departmental policies, guidelines and procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree,
  2. Experience working in Higher Education preferred
  3. Experience with diversity outreach and college access in secondary or higher education
  4. Background in working with student athletes in a campus setting
  5. Evidence of excellent communication and presentation skills, with ability to communicate effectively across cultures with a diverse population.
  6. Demonstrated organizational ability, including effective time-management skills and ability to prioritize in a multi-task work environment.
  7. Good computer skills with background using Microsoft Office Suite.
  8. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver's license and a willingness to travel for recruitment events.
  9. Familiarity with private higher education preferred.
  10. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as work load dictates.
