Come assist our Critical Access Hospital in our Health Information Management Department, we are located on the Oregon Coast in the city of Bandon. Southern Coos Hospital & Health Center has an onsite opening for a Health Information Specialist I. HIM Specialist I is responsible for interpreting all requests for copies of medical records, ensuring proper authorization, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements relevant to the privacy and security of protected health information. Responsibilities also include preparing, scanning, and indexing documents, and patient information into the electronic medical record and onsite paper record storage and destruction schedules.

Skills, Knowledge, & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills/strategies are required.
  • Ability to accurately relay information and communicate tactfully and courteously with co-workers, clinical staff, non-clinical staff, patients, and visitors is required.
  • Computer proficiency, keyboard skills, and experience using Microsoft Office products required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and medical record documentation is required.
  • One to two years of acute care or clinical medical record hospital experience (or equivalent education) is preferred.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) / Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience is preferred.

This is a Full-Time onsite position that is eligible for benefits. * SCHHC pays the full employee-only amount for Health, Dental, Vision, and Basic Life & AD&D insurance. *

Employment with Southern Coos Hospital is contingent upon an acceptable pre-employment drug screening and background check.
