WATER AND WASTEWATER CONVEYANCE & TREATMENT CIVIL ENGINEER I

CPL is seeking a Civil Engineer to support design efforts for water and wastewater conveyance & treatment-based projects in New York State. Aging infrastructure, increased regulations, and environmental stewardship are driving factors for our existing and potential client base. Making a difference in the communities we work in by helping our clients obtain State and Federal grants, leading them through the regulatory hurdles, and implementing cost effective solutions.

Preference would be for you to work out of one of our New York State offices, but it is not required. CPL also has offices in Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Consideration of partial or full-time remote work is also a possibility.

The individual in this role is taking on more responsibility by coordinating with multidisciplined professionals on industrial and commercial developments, seamlessly blending natural environments with man-made resources. Reporting to a Project Manager or Principal, the Engineer I develop meaningful designs for various civil and site engineering projects. Whether you’re tackling solutions for sanitary pump stations, assessing site layouts, or producing cost estimates for new stormwater management systems, you always remain focused on meeting client needs and mentoring junior team members. In this position, you are moderately independent and work on projects of small to moderate size and complexity.   

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE 

  • You earned a BS in civil engineering or a related field, and have at least four (4) years of relevant experience – or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Professional licensure (PE) is required 
  • You’re proficient in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, Revit, OpenRoads and/or other industry best programs, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite 
  • You have strong interpersonal skills and communicate effectively both verbally and via written correspondence 
  • You have an aptitude for juggling multiple projects concurrently without losing sight of crucial details  
  • You can understand and carry out complex technical oral or written instructions 

CORE DUTIES 

  • Work with Project Managers to ensure all projects are completed on time and within budget 
  • Coordinate the work of a multi-disciplined team (internal or external) throughout each step of a given project 
  • Delegate and provide oversight for the work assigned to Engineering Technicians or interns 
  • Maintain control of project documents, planning design efforts with the project team 
  • Evaluate, select, and execute standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.  
  • Make independent decisions regarding engineering complexities and methodologies 
  • Prepare maps, plans, reports, and forms as necessary  
  • Perform QA/QC on other's work, verifying calculations, outcomes, etc. 
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure, identify areas of weakness, and recommend solutions for improvement  
  • Assist the marketing team throughout the proposal development process  
  • Attend, lead and/or participate in client vision sessions to develop a firm understanding of client needs/project scopes

The rate for this position generally ranges between $70K-115K annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employees already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
