RP, Shipping Specialist

Holtec Decommissioning International (HDI) is currently seeking a Radiation Protection (RP) Shipping Specialist to join the Palisades Nuclear Plant team in Covert, MI.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE 

Responsible for leading and implementing assigned radiation protection programs for Radwaste Disposal/Shipping, and Radioactive Source Inventory. 

The successful candidate should have training and experience in completing radioactive shipments and support of the radwaste processing and packaging operations at a nuclear facility. 

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Implement and maintain the Radioactive Waste/Material Shipping Program.  Maintain current qualifications to characterize and ship radioactive materials and wastes for processing/burial. 
  • Develop and maintain radioactive material shipping procedures.  Receive, package, and ship radioactive materials in compliance with applicable transportation regulations; characterize shipments and select appropriate packaging; determine appropriate marking, labeling, and placarding; prepare required Department of Transportation and Nuclear Regulatory Commission documents for each shipment of radioactive material. 
  • Ensure compliance with disposal facility certifications and licenses.  Acquire vendor licensed shipping casks/containers and certifications. 
  • Establish radioactive material shipping schedules and coordinate cross-functionally to meet shipment schedules.   
  • Manage contracts related to radioactive shipping, processing, and burial, including coordination and direction of in-house and supplemental personnel supporting shipping activities. 
  • Implement and maintain source inventory and control program as assigned. 
  • Interface with regulatory and industry representatives on behalf of station activities. Communicate technical information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing.  
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Organization (ERO), including maintaining the ability to respond to assigned emergency facility within the times prescribed in the Emergency Plan when on-call. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

Minimum education required for the position. 

High School Diploma or equivalent. 

DOT Shipping Qualification 

Minimum experience required for the position. 

4 years of shipping experience. 

 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position. 

Technical proficiency in the RP Operations area. Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operation. Proficiency with current computer business applications.    

Any certificates, licenses, etc., required for the position. 

Yes – DOT/NRC Radioactive Waste Packaging, Transportation and Disposal Certification
