Technical Writer

We are looking for an experienced Technical Writer to join our team and provide  technical editor and document custodial duties in support of system engineering of a tactical weapons system.

This position will provide support to a system engineering team in the development, editing, maintenance, and custodial duties of engineering documents. This includes a large HCI design specification document, CONEMPs, Interface Responsibility Status Report (IRSR), and other technical documents. Duties include using Microsoft Office suite applications and Adobe to incorporate track changes (text and images) into the master HCI design specification document, coordinating with stakeholders to receive IRSR updates and incorporating the updates into the IRSR, ensuring accuracy and consistency in documents to include formatting, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and acronyms, verifying document accuracy, and recording/tracking revisions to technical documents.

The position requires working at a SimVentions office 3 days a week with the ability to telework 2 days a week.

Responsibilities: 

  • Incorporate track changes (text and images) into the master HCI design specification document ensuring accuracy, formatting, and correct grammar/punctuation/spelling are maintained
  • Utilize Jira and TCAP (i.e., SharePoint site) to review and track Change Request (CR) and Candidate Change Package (CCP) changes for incorporation into the HCI design specification
  • Collaborate with engineers to clarify CR and CCP changes for incorporation into the HCI design specification
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to receive IRSR updates
  • Update and maintain the IRSR (this is a Word document) to include incorporating updates received from stakeholders
  • Verify IRSR document accuracy against contractual requirements, previous reports, and data sources working with all members of the technical team and sponsors
  • Create and update PowerPoint slides to be used at IRSR meetings that are held once every two months
  • Adjudicate comments and incorporate updates into technical documents based on reviews
  • Collaborate with government customer to develop and maintain schedule for revision cycle of technical documents, such as the HCI Design Specification and IRSR
  • Create, update, modify, and maintain other technical documents as needed
  • Attend technical meetings
  • Occasionally record meeting minutes, meeting attendance, and present PowerPoint slides
  • Report weekly activity
  • Maintain classified and unclassified IT system access

Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship
  • 3+ years of experience in the preparation, writing, formatting, and editing of technical documents or other work-related experience demonstrating an understanding and ability to prepare technical documents and reports
  • Proficient in Microsoft office suite, including the use of Style Guides and Slide Masters
  • Attention to details and following established processes

Preferred Skills & Experience: 

  • Expert in Microsoft office suite, Adobe, and other documentation applications
  • Experience or knowledge of methods and/or applications to improve the maintenance and updating of documents
  • Experience with DoD, system engineering, and/or weapon system documentation

Education: None required but bachelor's of science degree is preferred

Clearance: A Secret Clearance is required for this position. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. US Citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.

Travel: Travel to NSWCD at Dahlgren Naval Base, as needed

Compensation at SimVentions is determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, security clearance, work location, skills, knowledge, and competencies, as well as alignment with our corporate compensation plan and contract specific requirements.  

The projected annual compensation range for this position is $72,000-$85,000 (USD). This estimate reflects the standard salary range for this position and is just one component of the total compensation package that SimVentions offers.
