Overview:
Reports to the Fleet Maintenance Manager and supervises the activities of fleet maintenance personnel in the garage. Office time 50% and in the garage 50% on daily activities with employees. You are responsible for timely, accurate, and complete records of maintenance and repairs.
Hours 3 pm to 12 am with flexibility to work 3rd shift as needed.

- Coordinate day-to-day fleet maintenance activities including tractor and trailer maintenance.
- Fill in for the Fleet Maintenance Manager in his absence, processing payroll and assuming his responsibilities.
- Review and sign-off on PM’s and work orders to ensure proper coding.
- Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of records pertaining to maintenance, fuels, lubricants, tires, and parts purchasing and inventories.
- Procures parts after hours to ensure timely repairs.
- Coordinate scheduling and staffing needs to meet the demands or the workload to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Administer all company policies and procedures fairly and consistently.
- Communicate and work closely with other departments and shifts to maximize efficiency in workflow.
- Ensure safe work practices and conditions and maintain a safe environment for team members and visitors at the garage in accordance with company policies and health and safety regulations.
- Assist with the development of improved work processes and procedures to enhance productivity and effectiveness of assigned work teams, equipment, and space.
- Conduct performance appraisals and coach direct reports to enhance individual and team performance; assist in the development of individual and team performance improvement goals to support achievement of company objectives.
- Identify maintenance employee training requirements and ensure successful completion.
- Participate in the identification and selection of maintenance personnel, as required.
- Maintain and project a professional attitude toward all employees in order to build and harbor a team atmosphere.
- Assist in establishing the department labor budget.
- Complete special projects and other job-related duties as designed.
- Safety inspections of the workplace are required with deficiencies corrected and/or reported to the maintenance manager including inspections of tools and equipment. replacing if needed and reporting deficiencies.
- Management Training Classes will be required and provided.
- A desire to work towards becoming an ASE Master.
- Eight (8) years’ work experience in vehicle/equipment maintenance, parts, and fuel management and/or
transportation or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• ASE certification preferred.
• Preferred knowledge of troubleshooting and repair of:
o Detroit Diesel Engines
o Emission Systems
o Exhaust regeneration
o Air brakes
o Meritor or Bendix brakes
o Carrier systems for refrigerated trailers
• Familiar with VRMS codes.
• Experience with Dossier and Yard a plus.
• Strong analytical skills and working knowledge of operational analysis.
• Computer literate with experience using MS Office and fleet management systems.
• Technical knowledge and skills related to internal combustion, diesel, and electric powered vehicles and material handling equipment.
• Strong leadership skills including team facilitation, training, team building and motivation.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
