Crane Nuclear is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our Bolingbrook team!

Principle Responsibilities:
  • Set up and operate with various materials per production schedule, verify and operate controls, set offsets, deburr, and inspect quality parts for conformance to requirements.
  • Operate, manual machines, such as lathes, vertical turret lathe, Bridgeport mill, grinder, and saw.
  • Study and interpret drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of workpieces, sequence of operations, and set up requirements.
  • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning facing, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting, sharpening, and replacing worn tools adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Detect equipment malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machines and adjusts the machine within capabilities, and as required to ensure safe and quality operation. Reports all machine malfunctions to the Operations Manager.
  • Inspect finished work product. Communicate with management, production control, quality, and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.
  • Maintain continuity among team by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintain equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Document actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Update and maintain Visual Management on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Problem-solving as necessary, finding root causes and implementing countermeasure improvement actions.
  • Participate in Crane Business System activities to drive or support continuous improvement.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' experience in manual machinery; experience operating multi-axis Machining Centers is strongly desired
  • Must have a working knowledge of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments should include but not limited to: calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, indicators and scales
  • Must possess a positive attitude for success in a team-driven environment
  • Must be adaptable to a changing production schedule, and competing demands and is comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Ability to read blueprint drawings and interpret geometric tolerance
  • Experience working in a Lean organization is a plus
  • Must be able to work independently while effectively communicating with manufacturing support areas
  • Experience working in a Lean organization is a plus

Position Summary:

Standard hours for this position are four 10-hour days: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm.
