OVERVIEW:

Rabbittransit is a Pennsylvania regional public transportation provider, offering a variety of transportation services to the residents of Adams, Columbia, Cumberland, Franklin, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Snyder, Union and York Counties. As a Mechanic you will perform basic mechanical tasks in the diagnosis of malfunctions, preventative maintenance, state inspections and repairs on all Authority owned vehicles. This position receives guidance, performs duties under supervision of the Specialist, Class A, and 1st Class Mechanics, or Manager and works within general guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complies with all safety policies and procedures; uses personal protective equipment. Completes all safety training as required.

  • Prepares for daily assignments by reviewing work orders as directed by shift supervisor, or management. Works variable shifts, irregular hours, and is available for overtime, all in accordance with bid, CBA policy and response to emergency situations.

  • Ensures that Authority vehicles are safe and in compliance with state and federal regulation as well as policies and procedures by performing preventative maintenance inspections using checklists and performing PA state inspections. Removes vehicles from service when necessary. Performs, but not limited to, greasing, lubrication, inspection and repair of all interior and exterior equipment and components on any vehicle owned by the Authority.

  • Ensures timely repair of vehicles by independently diagnosing and repairing all vehicle system and sub-system components to include but not limited to, engines, drive train, transmissions, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating ventilation and A/C.

  • Completes all certifications to work on all Authority fleet vehicles regardless of their type, fuel or component systems and sub-systems as soon as training is made available to them. Completes training for any newly introduced technologies or components.

  • Controls downtime of vehicles by receiving complaints and requests for equipment service, makes evaluations, makes service road calls to troubleshoot problems and make minor on-site repairs and, as required, makes arrangements to tow disabled vehicle back to shop for repair. Completes road testing of vehicles as required. Keeps operations informed of maintenance status.

  • Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Performs all building system, parts and tool repairs.

  • Preserves written reference and complies with regulations and policies by completing all required record-keeping and report preparation timely and accurately.

  • Maintains cooperative relationship with coworkers and management by communicating necessary information, responding to requests, building rapport; and participating in problem- solving methods.

  • Responds to emergency situations by driving transit vehicles to back-up operators or dispatchers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2+ years experience with diagnosing, maintaining and repairing heavy duty vehicles or 1+ year with applicable vocational training

  • CDL A or B preferred but will train

  • Experience working on transit vehicles preferred

  • Valid DOT medical card preferred

  • ASE certification preferred in at least two (2) of the following certifications: H2 Diesel Engines, H3 Drive Train, H4 Brakes, H5 suspension, Steering, H6 Electrical/Electronic Systems, H7 Heating, Ventilation, and A/C, or H8 Preventative Maintenance

  • Class 7 Pennsylvania State Motor Vehicle Inspection License preferred

  • AC 608 and 609 certification preferred

  • Must possess and own hand tools

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
