Field Technician

In this position, the Field Technician will perform field tests, assist engineers with building and materials investigations and assessments, document observed conditions during construction, prepare testing reports and construction monitoring related to the repair of existing buildings for a wide variety of project and clients.

• Perform field testing, inspections, investigations, and assessments.
• Participate in construction observation as requested by project leader.
• Prepare inspection and field observation reports.
• Examine buildings and structures and make recommendations for improvements and/or repair.
• Responsible for equipment management and coordination between office locations and service lines.
• Investigate varied materials, such as concrete and steel to assess their suitability for use in projects.
• Assist the project leader in the development of drawings, sketches, specifications, and sections for project layouts and contract documents in construction drafting software.
• Communicate design issues with project leader and/or design work beyond his/her capability.
• Employee must be able to travel to job sites, frequently, including overnight periodically.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with two to four years of related experience and/or training; or two-year technical degree with six months to one-year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, including certifications. Must have basic knowledge of construction practices, terminology, tools, and materials. Previous experience working in construction, building envelope, roofing and/or testing preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

Must have a valid driver's license with the ability to complete required OSHA training. Willingness to pursue relevant certifications through ACI, ICRI and/or IIBEC.

Computer and Software Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Internet. Proficiency in construction document delivery software, such as AutoCAD and/or Revit preferred. Familiarity with Bluebeam a plus.

While working on a job site, continuously required to lift and/or move up to twenty pounds. Frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb ladders; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift and/or move up to fifty pounds. Must be physically capable of working on a construction site, on scaffolds, at heights and in tight spaces with the aptitude to assemble and operate testing equipment.

While performing office related duties, will be sitting frequently and must be able to work on a computer, type, and hold a mouse.
