Responsible for assisting the patient with all aspects of pre-operative preparations in order to promote patient-confidence in their medical care and make the surgical experience as smooth as possible.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Have a basic knowledge of equipment and supplies necessary to surgery.
  • Knowledge of common prescription medications and their relationship to surgery.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Computer literate.
  • Able to meet surgical scheduling volumes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Schedule all patient surgeries and pre-operative appointments, including those with the patient’s surgical facility and ophthalmologist.
  • Schedule post-operative appointments as appropriate, including those with the referring optometrist.
  • Arrange patient transportation, if necessary.
  • Notify patient of all scheduled appointments.
  • Prepare surgery packets and post-op kits.
  • Send appropriate H&P forms as well as lab, EKG, and radiology needs to primary care physician.
  • Prepare all pertinent information for upcoming surgery, such as bookings, lens orders, insurance, H&Ps and signed consent forms, and transfer to surgical facilities.
  • Answer all telephone inquiries from patients, their families, or primary care physicians concerning surgery and/or related concerns.
  • Perform pre-operative counseling appointments as needed.
  • Explain patient lens options and collect appropriate fees prior to surgery.
  • Arrange financing or assist patient with various agencies for financial assistance.
  • Ensure charts are to Dr. at least 1 week prior to that final lens powers can be sent to the surgery center at least 3 week days prior to surgery.
  • Be sure that all surgery packets for Dr. are to the surgery center at least 2 week days prior to the surgery day.
  • Obtain all H & P forms and payments for Dr. at least 1 week prior to surgery.
  • Complete Post op phone calls for Dr. surgery patients including making a telephone encounter and emailing Dr. when complete.
  • Be ambassador for practice.
  • Assist other areas of the practice as needed.

Schedule: • Day shift • Monday – Friday 7:45 am – 5pm

Requirements:

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • High school diploma.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills as well as a neat and professional appearance.
  • Two years of specialized ophthalmic experience.
  • Degree of supervision (i.e., direct, indirect), independence and discretion:
  • Position requires a great deal of initiative and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Employee must comply by state/national guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Given the level of training and experience required in this position, the employee will be expected to work independently.
