Description:

Position Summary: Supports Electrical Design Supervisor in gathering of project information such as motor horsepower, voltages, current draws and assist in the sizing of electrical power equipment to serve the equipment in a bulk material handling site. Also specify automation components, communication components and layout control system hardware.

  • Collaborate with equipment vendors, sales, and the electrical design team to gather information about the project.
  • Review sales orders, equipment lists, process flow diagrams, and equipment layout drawings to determine project details.
  • Prepare, check, and coordinate design drawings and other documentation needed for plant control systems per applicable standards and codes.
  • Calculate load and size electrical components in accordance with UL and the National Electric Code.
  • Stay current with industry trends related to products and services.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems using equipment manuals, schematics and PLC ladder logic.
  • Program, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation equipment.
  • Assist in the composition of operator manuals and control narratives.
  • Assist in the development and application of new products, controls, instruments, and systems for new commercial and industrial use, for both the export and domestic market in a cost effective and practical manner.
  • Assist Engineering and shop personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and determine methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products, processes, and control panels.
  • Assist in directing or coordinating manufacturing, construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements. This includes but is not limited to UL, OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and local requirements.
  • Specify motor starters, soft starts, variable frequency drives, and motor control centers.
  • Stay familiar with programming software and configuration of PLC’s, VFD’s, soft starts, and other control devices.
  • Assist and coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations.
  • Specify pneumatic and hydraulic components and systems in relation to Kahler systems and customer requirements.
  • Investigate internal or external customer complaints, determine nature and extent of problem, and recommend remedial measures in a timely manner.

Requirements:

Education/Experience:

Associates degree or equivalent; Journeyman or Master electrician or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience as an electrician, working at a wholesale distributor specifying electrical equipment, or maintaining electrical power and control systems in an industrial setting. A background utilizing NFPA regulations including National Electrical Code. Experience building control panels meeting UL508A requirements.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software. This position will use the ERP system daily to perform work.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations in a logical manner to come to conclusion. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Math Ability:

Ability to do calculations such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Proficiency in electrical calculations using Ohms Law.


Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively and clearly write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

Travel:

Training or job site visits may be required with overnight stays. We estimate the travel to be around 15% of the time but may be greater due to projects. Travel may be by automobile and airplane.
