A leading North American grower / packer / shipper seeks a sales expert who thrives on bringing on new customers and the business development process. This company has an extensive grower base, strong customer relationships, a strong brand, and a very solid product line. The position of Director of Business Development will be charged with expanding their retail grocery customer base throughout the greater Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, Central regions of the U.S.

Position can be home based with travel, but will be expected to train and learn the company at their location in the Southeast, with consistent visits to their office. Experience & Skills Sought:

  • An aptitude for business processes and acumen
  • Fresh produce commodity sales experience
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, prioritize workload and customer needs, ability to stay self-motivated and highly organized
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently within established policies and broad objectives
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite products, knowledge of inventory management software
  • Valid drivers' license and passport required
  • Flexibility in working hours required / frequent travel within the U.S. and Canada
  • 7-10 years of sales account management experience in the produce industry
  • 5 years' experience in a sales leadership or business development role

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in business or a relevant field of study

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Account Management and constant oversight of customer base
  • Conduct frequent customer sales presentations
  • Prepare and manage pricing lists for customers
  • Communicate new customer needs and requirements to all departments and divisions with the company
  • Deliver high level customer service to drive new business development
  • Provide market updates
  • Conduct strategic planning as it relates to trade shows, presentations and new business development
  • Attend regular industry events and advocate for the produce industry while also upholding and representing a professional image of the company
  • Other duties as required by the COO
