Commitment to Citizen Service

Service encompasses all aspects of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian’s governmental operations. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Citizens, the Tribal Council, and staff members. To this end, all employees have an obligation to identify and report any service problems, issues, or concerns and through designated channels, initiate, recommend, and actively participate in solutions.

Position Summary: Prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. Measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders.

Essential Functions:

  • Receive written, telephoned, e-script prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate, ascertain the needed medications, and verify with the pharmacist, if needed their suitability.
  • Enter prescription orders into the computer.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  • Fill drugs prescribed by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients. Make comparable drug substitutions as appropriate.
  • Establish or maintain patient profiles, insurance information and lists of medications taken by individual patients.
  • Mix/compound pharmaceuticals, prepackage bulk medicines, fill bottles with prescribed medications, and type and affix labels.
  • Create and maintain blister pack compliance packaging paperwork and fill weekly pill packs accurately.
  • File prescriptions that have been filled and maintain pharmacy records such as pharmacy files, patient profiles and insurance information, inventories, etc. Maintain records per records retention schedule.
  • Answer telephones, screen calls for Pharmacist, and respond to questions or requests. Assist by locating items, or referring them to the Pharmacist, for medication information.
  • Request payments from insurance companies and reconcile insurance checks in Computer Rx program.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, receive and store incoming pharmacy supplies and verify quantities against invoices.
  • Check for outdated medications in current inventory and send to vendors for reimbursements, inform Pharmacist of stock needs and drug backorders/shortages.
  • Complete daily distribution center medication orders, place orders on shelves, and verify all associated paperwork.
  • Process credit card and check payments through the point-of-sale register.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas and help maintain equipment.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with procedures for mixing, packaging, or labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Collaborate with Pharmacist to monitor, review, or evaluate the quality or effectiveness of drugs or drug regimens.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers, Providers and external pharmacies and assist with internal and external audits as needed.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Set up informational booths and participate in health fairs and special events as needed.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.

Equipment:

  • Standard office equipment.
  • Systems used: MS Office Applications, Internet, Computer Rx, Surescripts, EPIC

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan or Indiana or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Applications preferred.
  • Ability to alleviate stress and anxiety and be supportive of persons and work tactfully, collaboratively, diplomatically and with highest level of confidentiality required.
  • Strong sense of service and good communication skills, both oral and written required.
  • Experience working with Native American communities preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is generally standing and walking
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment/count product.
  • Frequently required to talk and hear.

Work Environment:

  • General office/pharmacy environment. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within a pharmacy environment, with standard equipment available.
